Halo

Halo is an innovative solution leveraging vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology to transform existing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) modern fleets for commercial applications. Halo also enables fleet operators to retrofit rather than replace vehicles ahead of the market moving towards driverless vehicles.

Retrofit rather than Replace

Halo was born out of Pomo Robotics. It provides a retrofit solution for existing commercial vehicles, to enable autonomous driving. This can enable equipment to be upgraded at a sensible cost, as businesses make the transition to driverless operations.

Level 5 Autonomy

One of the most powerful features of Halo is its ability to retrofit existing fleets, transforming standard vehicles into fully autonomous machines capable of navigating complex road networks with precision and safety. The Halo Hub system offers Level 5 autonomy, which means that fleet operators can automate their entire operation—whether for long-distance transport or shorter local deliveries—without the need for a driver in the cab. This level of automation can dramatically improve operational efficiency, reduce labour costs, and enhance overall fleet productivity.

Long haul and short haul shunting

The applications for driverless trucking extend beyond just long-haul transport. The market for shunting operations—where vehicles are used to move trailers or containers within yards or between facilities—is another key area where autonomous vehicles can make a significant impact. With Halo technology, these operations can be fully automated, improving safety and efficiency in environments like distribution centres, ports, and warehouses. Automation in shunting operations reduces human error, minimises downtime, and enhances throughput, making it a game-changer for businesses that rely on complex logistics networks. .

Cost per mile and ageing driver population

While autonomous driving technology has been deployed in passenger vehicles and urban mobility solutions, its true potential lies in the logistics sector. The use of autonomous vehicles for driverless trucking represents the next frontier in logistics, and Halo is perfectly positioned to help realise that potential. The logistics industry is under constant pressure to reduce costs per mile and increase the number of deliveries made each day. With driverless trucking, both goals are within reach. The ability to operate trucks around the clock, without the constraints of human drivers, can result in faster turnaround times and more efficient use of resources. Furthermore, the adoption of autonomous trucks helps to address the growing shortage of qualified drivers, a problem that is only expected to get worse in the coming years.

Optimise Decision Making

At the forefront of this transformation is Halo, a next-generation autonomous driving system designed to meet the needs of the commercial vehicle market. Halo is more than just another innovation in the realm of autonomous vehicles—it represents a bold shift in the way we think about logistics, both for the present and for the future. By integrating advanced Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, Halo enables vehicles to communicate with surrounding infrastructure, other vehicles, and the cloud, creating a dynamic, responsive system that can optimise decision-making in real time.

Seamless communication with infrastructure

A key part of Halo’s capabilities lies in its V2X Platform, which enables vehicles to communicate seamlessly with one another and with critical infrastructure such as traffic signals, road sensors, and even construction zones. This communication capability ensures that decisions made in real time are based on the most current, accurate data available. Whether it’s adjusting speed based on traffic patterns, rerouting due to road conditions, or avoiding potential hazards, Halo’s V2X system provides a level of intelligence that traditional logistics systems simply can’t match.

Halo ViewPort

This ability to optimise operations using real-time data is further enhanced by Halo ViewPort, a machine-learning platform designed to analyse traffic, terrain, and weather conditions. By constantly gathering and processing data from its environment, Halo ViewPort helps to ensure that every journey is as efficient as possible. This means reduced fuel consumption, fewer delays, and improved fleet management—key factors for any logistics operation aiming to stay competitive in today’s demanding market.

Our partnership with Halo allows us to work with policy makers and the road freight market to explore adoption of autonomous vehicles in the commercial road haulage sector.

Halo are currently conducting tests using a Kia e-Niro, modified with a custom exoskeleton to dimensionally replicate a truck on the road. This innovative test bed allows us to simulate real-world logistics scenarios and ensure that their technology is optimised for large-scale fleet applications. This testing phase is a key part of the development process, allowing them to perfect the system before scaling it up to full autonomous trucks. As we look to the future, we are also seeking partnerships with leading OEMs, with the goal of integrating the technology into a broader range of vehicles and logistics operations. These partnerships will enable us to accelerate the deployment of Halo, making autonomous freight a reality for a wider array of businesses.

Looking ahead, we are targeting shunting operations for full-scale deployment by 2026. From there, we plan to extend the technology to on-road driverless trucking by 2027, with the vision of scaling this to a broad market across the next decade, reaching full market penetration by 2031. This ambitious timeline will enable the logistics industry to adopt autonomous technologies gradually, while ensuring the necessary regulatory, technological, and infrastructure requirements are met along the way.
